I no longer need music streaming services because of Plex

I’ve moved all my music over to my Plex server and I have completely stopped listening to my music streaming service (Play Music). Then I started buying my music collection from Amazon, because it’s DRM free, spending about the same as music service fees; still comes out to less a year, and it’s one time so I spend even less in the long run.

Access

With Plex I can stream my music from anywhere I have an Internet connection, like every streaming services. It’s an audio file, so it really doesn’t require that much bandwidth. I can sync my music to my device for offline listening, and specify how much space I’d like to dedicate to music syncing.

Matching

I’ve had no problems matching the music I’ve collected over the years to their album arts, genre, lyrics and music videos. Plex does a great job at matching the music and getting information about the artists and even collecting enough to show you similar artists in your collection.

Lyrics

I found this pretty cool, and most music services don’t provide this feature even though the data is available online for them to use. The Plex app allows you to see the lyrics to the music you’re listening to, and it follows along. It doesn’t do this for all music; however, the overwhelming majority of my music supports it.

Availability

I don’t really see this happen as much as I do movies and TV shows, but when I get music it stays in my library, there’s no company saying they want the content taken down because they aren’t getting enough or the contract isn’t renewed.
